Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction and fantasy that incorporates science, technology, history and design inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. The Steampunk genre spans fine art, music, comics, movie and television sets, fashion, toys, video games and themed parties. Steampunk artists create work that spans many materials and themes -- from repurposed materials to hi-tech, from Wild West to Horror & Sci-Fi, to Nautical and anything in between.
When you visit Steampunk: An Art Invitational you will walk into a world of sculpture, photography, costumery, furniture and amazing accessories that will transport you into alternate realities. Look out for moving parts, kooky characters and fantasy come to life!
Many of the pieces in STEAMPUNK: An Art Invitational will also be available for sale! This is an exciting opportunity to collect work from these prominent artists. A catalog with artist bios and price lists will be available for your perusal at both events and during the entire run of the show.
For the Steampunk Demonstration Day August 11th featured artists will be in the museum activating their creations and sharing stories about their craft. This day will have presentations and activities for the whole family, stay tuned for more details!
