Eighth Annual Cornelius Holiday Tree Lighting
The City of Cornelius will hold its Eighth Annual Holiday Tree Lighting event on Friday, December 6th at Veterans Memorial Park beginning at 6:00PM. The Veterans Memorial Park is on Baseline Street between 12th and 13th Streets.
The free event will include holiday songs sung by grade, middle and high school-aged students from Cornelius Elementary School, Neil Armstrong Middle School, Forest Grove High School and Sunrise Church. Songs will also be in Spanish. Prior to the official tree lighting ceremony, Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive via a Cornelius Fire Department truck. There will be free candy canes for children. Santa Claus and Mayor Jef Dalin will kick off the holiday season by lighting the Holiday Tree at approximately 6:20 PM.
Again this year, after the tree is lit, everyone will be invited to walk two blocks away to Cornelius Elementary School at Adair Street and 14th Avenue. More holiday songs will be sung inside the heated school cafeteria. In addition, free hot chocolate and cookies will be served by the Cornelius Boosters Club. The Cornelius Youth Advisory Council will be helping, also. Since the City is building a new library and has torn down the old City Council Chambers, the event was moved to Cornelius Elementary School.
